Thanks for the info and the links Marbred. I'm definitely going to check it out.

One question though: If I decide I don't want the new music anymore, will it be obvious which files to delete, and/or will the Morrowind files be overwritten?

You can always play any of the files with your standard music player to find ones you don't like. They're all just mp3 files. One of the reasons I listed all the tracks for everything was so it'd be a little easier to find things if you lost the zips.

The only pack listed that will over-write anything is the Morrowind ITP Music Pack. It's an installer exe when you download it, so make you install it into a temporary folder and then rename the files.

Thank you! happy.gif (I made this compilation but the compliments must go to their great composers, especially David John and Edgen... They kindly gave permission for their use).

I also made a compilation of all the Daggerfall remixes I found (by Zenogias but also others composers, only mp3!). It can be downloaded here (7-zip archive):

There is a French readme with it. Here is the list of composers:

This is rather good too.

A darker feel

Make sure all your original Morrowind music is backed up in case you don't like it.

I also add moody music by artists like Enya, Lisa Gerrard/Dead Can Dance, Qntal and loads of overwrought goth power ballads (love 'em) by bands like Nightwish. The Mission and Leaves Eyes. Even some Jethro Tull!
Great thread!
Soundtrack from the game Arcanum: Of Steamwork and Magic Obscura has great feeling. I have used it for quite a time and enjoyed every moment. It has both battle and exploring music. Fits well in Morrowind, though it's bit more intimate and melancholic. Melacholic but comforting. Beautiful tunes.

The best thing? Freely downloadable! Just click HERE

====================================================

Jeremy Soule
Soule has remastered his original Morrowind music. You'll need to register to download it, but with a total of 19 songs (wasn't there only 7 in the game?) how can you lose?
Also, if you have Oblivion, throw the music from that into your Morrowind folders too. Personally, I like his Oblivion soundtrack much better than Morrowinds.
====================================================

Well, at least $20 for both the extended remastered Morrowind and Oblivion OSTs, including the CDs you need to burn the WMAs to to get morrowindable mp3s and the time to do that... Which is OK really, but when you can get so much else for free, it sort of dims a bit.
Yikes, it's $20?
That's the only music I didn't actually download before adding it to the list. Call me lazy I guess. I could have sworn I read someplace that the 'new' Morrowind score was free. I would not pay for that, sorry, but the 'new' version doesn't sound all that much different to me shrug.gif I was hoping for more bass in it, or at least a louder volume.

Maybe I should take that entry down?

$20 for both. $10 each. You get high-quality upmasters of the tracks with Morrowind, which are quite low quality (160? 128?) and about 4 or 5 new ones. See personally I'd still say that was worth it... not right now though, as I'm rather broke, but to me it's a fair price.
Instant classic! Will be checking the ones I didn't know about ohmy.gif smile.gif

"Know of any other music 'mods'? Feel free to speak up. I can't promise instant updates to this list, though. I'm a very slow list updater... But I think this is as good a start as any "
Well, I've added a few extra tracks I love that I feel fit the mood of the original tracks and the Epic Soundtrack~
The Longest Journey song :
06 Marcuria and the Northlands (1m 57s).mp3
from the free soundtrack to the award winning game the Longest Journey
http://www.longestjourney.com/download/music/
However I did trim the song, because it's divided into 2 parts; notice the 1m 57s~

Also,
Well, this probably won't be very helpful but; I own Guild Wars and I added these Jeremy Soule songs :
05 Eye of the Storm.mp3
07 Sands of Kryta.mp3
13 Abaddon's Mouth.mp3
15 Gwen's Theme.mp3

They became instant classics in the original style but with more flavor in my opinion~
These were all for explore:

I also added 19. Hall of Heroes (1:41).mp3 to Battle as MW battle 6.mp3; [it might be trimmed down to 1:41] Can't remember if I had to or not~ but it fits the style I think~

I love these lol Thanks for the list again!

EDIT: Oh, I added
my own Morrowind Title.mp3 to the Special directory
Guild Wars song 14. Crystal Oasis.mp3; This song was the reason I bought Guild Wars originally.

Also some of the music from the mod Wizard's Island I love [the daggerfall snow song on that one was really good]

Greatest song ever. Brings back memories of clearing off the shelves of the Odd Blades at 2 in the morning.
Not sure if anyone's mentioned the game yet but I've used the tunes from Divine Divinity: "Desert Fight", "Forest", "Demona's Run", "Bitva" (Battle) and "Voin".

This page looks like it's worth a browse too.

Morrowind Remastered is $6 and the bitrate is 320 kbits for both.

Marbred, 192 kbits songs play also.

@Dragon32:
Kirill's music(Divine Divinity) is located above under the Epic Soundtrack. Stronghold of the Orcs is my favorite with a few of the more darker songs like Crypts and Catacombs, Those Who Roam in the Sewers, and Halls Beneath the Ground.

So you're saying it's "By by various composers"!

Great idea!

I love the Wizards' Islands soundtrack, but that sorta comes with a mod tongue.gif

You said you have to register to download the Jeremy Soule stuff? Where? I found his website really confusing. I loooove his stuff - particularly GW: Nightfall.
Thanks for this topic! I'm searching musics for my mod, I hope I could find them! smile.gif
For Soules music (which apparently is NOT free) click on the tiny "Music" button on his top menu bar. Then click on the "DirectSong" banner that comes up. From there you can select which games to view.

Anyone have a track list from Wizards Island? If it's got different tracks than what is already listed (I have a feeling that it's got Daggerfall music in it), then it should go the list.

It's not a problem if it comes from a mod. Notice that McAsmods Werewolves is listed biggrin.gif
Oh, gosh, there are LOADS of tracks in Wizards' Islands - all new music composed by the team-members themselves. I personally think that the ones written by Intelligentsia are of a particularly high standard smile.gif
It would take me too long to copy-type them from the .pdf walkthrough. Suffice to say, if you have "Wintervale Armorer" or "Shadowfrost Battle", you have them. There are 69 tracks in total.

Oh! Forgot to say - Xill was quite adamant about not letting people use any of WI's assets without permission (and he generally didn't give permission). I don't know if he's relaxed his stance since moving onto other games.
I don't think he's given permission, but if you guys want the music, try to contact him, or Intelli, about it.

Santa_Cruz
Well, you'd have to download the mod in order to get the music, so...
I don't see how anyone could have a problem with people downloading a mod of theirs.

The whole permissions issue is pretty much moot in this.

69 tracks? Holy crap! biggrin.gif
Is there some way to make it so that certain tracks only play in certain places like ruins and villages(and solstiem for the snow pack)?

I only know how to make it so that they either play in battle or normal exploriation.

EDIT: also is it a good idea to add more "silent" tracks to your game if you have Atmospheric Sound Effects to get the full effect of it?
QUOTE(Nadaz @ Jan 17 2007, 10:51 PM) *

Only with scripting. The problem with that is
a.)Any music that's started by a script comes on at full volume, no matter what.
B.)a global script that checks what location you're in and then randomly plays from a list of tracks for that location would probably cause a nice FPS hit. And probably be a pain to script.

I just woke up, but I'm sure theres more reasons. For me, reason A is enough. If you've ever played a mod that has custom scripted music in it, you'd probably agree wink.gif

QUOTE

Silent tracks are great even if you're not using ASE. The 20 second silent tracks that come in The Epic Soundtrack work perfectly. I wouldn't use the 10 minute silent track in Werewolves, though. That's a bit too much.
Ack, 10 minute silence? I don't think I could handle that. I depend on music to live! biggrin.gif
Why I asked about the silence was that I don't know how much music and ASE conflict with eachother. Does music dampen the full effect of ASE?

Only inasmuch as you can't always hear the sound effects. I usually play with the music on middle-volume, so you can still enjoy the music but can also enjoy the sound of insects, etc. from ASE. Scripted music, of course, comes on full-blast...

QUOTE(Marbred)
Adding new music to Morrowind might be the easiest way to mod the game. The hard part is finding the right
music for it.

To add music all you need is a .mp3 file. Files at 64, 128, 192, and 256 kbps sampling rates work the best.
Your music folders are located in your Data Files/Music folder, and are labeled "Explore" and "Battle".
Battle music plays when something is attacking you, and Explore plays the rest of the time. Just put your .mp3
files in one or both of these folders, and you're good to go.

But, Marb, what's some good music to put in there?

Ah, good question, glad you asked. Personally I enjoy instrumentals while playing. Soundtracks are a good
source of these. You know you're having a good time when the theme to Dawn of the Dead is playing
while you're slaughtering nasties. The best, though, is the nice choice of Player Made music we have at our disposal.

Player made music? People make music for this game? Where can I get it?

They sure do (or at least release their own music as suggestions), and it's all mostly pretty damned good, too.
