Version Two!

I noticed a lot of people have been asking about the 360 controller. Oblivion's support for it is pretty terrible. Using Control MK, this is how I've gotten it to work.

1) Go to My Documents\My Games\Oblivion. Go into the configuration file, called 'Oblivion'. Once in the file, find:

QUOTE
bUse Joystick=0

If it is at 0, change it to 1. If it is at 1, leave it as it is.

Then, find:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

And replace it with:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=0
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=0
fJoystickMoveFBMult=0.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=0
iJoystickLookLeftRight=0
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0000
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0000

Step one is done! Thanks to Cochese for that part!

Step Two!

2) Go into Oblivion. Go into the keyboard controls area. Restore all to default. Then, scroll down, and find grab. You'll see it's set to 'Z'. Change it to 'shift'.

Step two is done!

Step Three!

3) Go to this site. Download the latest version of Control MK. Install this wherever you want. It's not a very big file.

Step three is done!

Step Four! *Too many people are getting confused with this, so skip it unless you know what to do*

4) Go to here (or here if the other one doesn't work). Put the [very small] file in the same folder as Control MK.

Step four is done!

Step Five!

5) Go into Control MK. In the first two drop down boxes, select the 360 controller. In the next one [the third one], click on the arrow button to the right of it. Navigate to the Control MK folder, and select the file 'oblivion.pro'. Press save, but don't close it! NEW ADDITION: For people confused about the .Pro file, click the name of a button (X axis, Y Axis, Button 1, etc) and select a keyboard or mouse button for the drop-down box. The buttons go in this order:

A
D
W
S
Mouse left click
Mouse right click
Mouse move X neg
Mouse move X pos
Mouse move Y neg
Mouse move Y pos
Space
Tab
F
E
Shift
C
T
Escape
Control
R

The keyboard buttons have a VK_ prefix, like VK_R in the drop down menu.

Quite an important part: you should see a few boxes towards the bottom of the Control MK screen. One should say 'DeadZone'. Make the number 20 instead of 10. Remember to click apply, then save. Thanks to Jordash for that!

NOTE: I'm not sure, but you may have to click the arrow next to the third box, select export, and save it as something. This may not be necessary, but it's good to have a back up incase something goes wrong.

And you're done! Go into Oblivion, and use the controller perfectly!

More stuff:

With this, you can use the d-pad for the eights hot-keys. Or use one button of the d-pad for the toggle run/walk button. It's up to you. Control MK is pretty useful once you work your way around it.

Of course, this won't be like playing the 360 version. To click on something (like in the menus, or when talking to someone), use the right trigger. The right trigger is the equivalent of the left mouse button. However, the controls are mapped out exactly like the 360 version.

If you want to walk around for some reason, you're going to have to set one of the d-pad buttons as the toggle button. In the 360 version, if you push the thumbstick gently, it walks, if you push it hard, it runs. With this configuration, even when you push the stick gently, it will run. However, I have a work-around that I haven't tried, but I'm confident that it will work:

Remember the file you were in before, where you changed this:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

to this?

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=0
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=0
fJoystickMoveFBMult=0.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=0
iJoystickLookLeftRight=0
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0000
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0000

Well, if you want to be able to push the thumbstick gently for walking, change it to:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

Next, go into control MK. Select the profile you just downloaded. See where it has the four lines saying X rotation, Y rotation, etc? Well, click on that (the part to the left), and in the drop down box, select 'none' for all four. Save it. Now, Oblvion controls the movement stick. So, now you can push gently to walk.

If you're wondering why you had to set grab as shift, it's so you can drop items. In the inventory, press left bumper + right trigger to drop something.

Unfortunately, vibration and the 'ring of light' don't work on the PC.

Enjoy!
Thanks, demonofdeath.

I got my Logitech controller to work with control MK.
Since Oblivion was reading everything but the right stick I just configured the z axis and z rotation and left everything else blank.

Now it works like it should.

Thanks again.
Sorry, one host was down, and rapidshare deleted it because it hadn't been downloaded for a while. The following link will work, and so will the ones in the original post:

http://rapidshare.de/files/37189706/oblivion.pro.html

Thanks!
It works great now. only one problem. I constantly moves! i tried turning ff automove but i still moves.
You mean your character keeps moving? This doesn't happen to me... Sounds like something on your controller is stuffed. Try moving it around till you find the 0-0 place. This sometimes happens with my controller, the Y axis doesn't revert back to 0-0, but a small tap and it's fine.

Sorry. sad.gif
Will this work with the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad?
controller wouldn't work at all. So, I go to the Replying to How to get the 360 controller working 100% thing and follow the instructions. The moment I opened the comtrolMK software I did fine setting the first 2 boxes to the joystick. But, once I did the 3rd step of adding that file my mouse went crazy and I couldn’t stop it.

Well, I load up the game t0 see anything changed. Yea, things changed, as the "Joystick" option didn't appear anymore so I couldn’t set any of the buttons. So I log out and change that back to "1" and now can access the controller config. Went into my game I realize I was constantly looking up and to use the mouse to get myself eye view but the left side as well as L/R2 being useless.

A few tries later: I could use L/R2 to look from side to side instead of suing the mouse but the mouse still controls the up and down looking...

so...after all that I’m asking honestly is there a way to config the controller so you don't have to depend on the mouse for looking around. I can't get an a detection of LR2 but like I said at least I can look around.

so please any helps, ideas, links, guides I need it simple and spelled out. I speak hardware language better than computer language.

sorry sloppy writing but I'm on some serious meds and I can't keep my eyes upon so /bow in shame. Thank in advance for your assistance. I'm been playing these days since Arena can out and the is the most approachable one good game, just wish I could configured button auto like in Final Fantasy XI.

Also, I have a bought this year Logitech controller for FFXI bur I couldn't config for oblivion but I still am missing the left side of the game pad problem. I've been playing on the 360 with s family member who owns it wasn't home. That’s the main reason I would like as close as the same game

"Logitech Dual Action Gamepad?"

Follow the same instructions, but you'll have to make your own controls with Control MK, because the 360 and logitech controllers are different. It's the harder part, but can be done in a little while.

Captainbread:

You won't need to go into Oblivion to map out the keys. That's what Control MK is for. Putting the setting to 0 is to ensure that they don't clash. If you start from scratch, and follow the guide completely, it should work for you.

I'm in a hurry, sorry I didn't give much detail, and sorry I took so long to reply.

Thanks!
Hi, Demon. Just wanted to post my setup in case other people were having similar problems I was having. Mainly, when moving diagonally the movement was really slow and messing me up when fighting. Also, there is a way you can assign two commands to one button so you can rely less on the keyboard. This is somewhat limited because you don’t want actions to conflict, but very useful.

First this is my MK Control setup: This is with keyboard controls set to default

X Axis - = VK_A
X Axis + = VK_D
Y Axis - = VK_W
Y Axis + = VK_S

These will control your movement. (Left thumb stick)

Z Axis - = MOUSE_LEFT_CLICK (Right Trigger)
Z Axis + = MOUSE_RIGHT_CLICK (Left Trigger)

X Rotation - = MOUSE_MOVE_X_NEG
X Rotation + = MOUSE_MOVE_X_POS
Y Rotation - = MOUSE_MOVE_Y_NEG
Y Rotation + = MOUSE_MOVE_Y_POS

Controls looking around (right thumb stick)

Button Configuration:

Button 0(A) = VK_SPACE
Button 1(B ) = VK_TAB
Button 2(X) = VK_F
Button 3(Y) = VK_E
Button 4(left bumper) = VK_CAPITAL (this cancels the default “grab”, but there is a fix)
Button 5(right bumper) = VK_C
Button 6(select) = VK_F5 (for quick saves, default on 360 is wait, but I think this is more useful)
Button 7(start) = VK_ESCAPE
Button 8(left click) = VK_LCONTROL
Button 9(right click) = VK_R

Except for the two specified, this is the default setting for the 360. Setting the LB to CAPS is so you can toggle walk/run. You will need this because of the ini settings.

INI Settings:

It is possible to rely completely on MK Control and set bUse Joystick=0, but this will kill the D_Pad and you won’t be able to use the hotkeys. So, set bUse Joystick=1 and follow these steps.

;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

Above are the default settings, but change them all to zero like this.

;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=0
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=0
fJoystickMoveFBMult=0.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=0
iJoystickLookLeftRight=0
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0000
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0000

This will stop Oblivion from trying to control your left and right thumb sticks. This cleared up the movement problems I was having. However, you can no longer slightly move the left stick to walk and move all the way to run, hence the left bumper CAPS assignment.

In game settings:

With all the keyboard controls set to default go to the joystick controls.

Set “grab” to the left bumper. Now you can grab and toggle walk/run with the same button. You can leave the rest of the joystick controls blank since MK Control is controlling everything except the D-Pad.

You can also assign VK_SHIFT to button 0 in MK Control and set “Activate” to button “A” in the game. This will let you drop items in the menu. If there is a mod that let’s you hit SHIFT + 1-8 you could hit “A” + D-Pad for an extra set of hotkeys. I will have to look into this. You can never have enough hotkeys.

This setup is intended for the 360 controller, but I imagine you could go through the process and get the same results with another controller. I haven’t tried this setup on my Logitech, but I know it was working just fine before I got the 360 controller. I just like the 360 controller more.

I hope this helps people that are having similar issues with Oblivion and gamepads. MK Control is a great program once you get used to it. Thanks again, Demonofdeath. I would have never figured any of this out without your guide.
hey just wondering but the program isnt finding my controller, ive got the microsoft drivers for it and yet its not working
Well, I replied to your PM. Perhaps something is wrong with your USB ports or something. I have no idea why it wouldn't register. Sorry.

Perhaps download JoyToKey:

http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyTo...h%20Version.htm

If it registers, try to see if you can make a profile to get it to work in Oblivion.
Sorry mate, I really have no idea why it isn't registering. It could be anything from the computer, to the controller itself. I really don't know. sad.gif

Does it register in Oblivion?

Also, to davidbeck (you might want to try this too, Stonesour767), if JoyToKey doesn't work, try this:

Change this:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

To this:

QUOTE
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

Making sure that bUse Joystick is set to 1. See if you can then set the buttons in Oblivion. This likely won't work very well though. Might not even work at all, I dunno.

Do you plug the controller in before you start MK control? I have found that if I don't plug the controller in before I start mk control, it won't recognize my controller.

Is it working in the game? In any game?

Double post, sorry.
Thanks for the reply to the PM, Cochese. For anyone who needs to know about hotkeys, you highlight the item, hold a direction on the d-pad, and press RT. Thanks to Cochese for that!

Okay, I have been doing a little research and found out that the reason I couldn't use my 360 controller is because it is wireless. I was plugging it into my computer using the charging cord. Apparently, it doesn't work that way. Only the wired controller will work on pc and 360. The wireless will only work on 360.

If it is at 0, change it to 1. If it is at 1, leave it as it is.

Then, find:
And replace it with:

2) Go into Oblivion. Go into the keyboard controls area. Restore all to default. Then, scroll down, and find grab. You'll see it's set to 'Z'. Change it to 'shift'.

Step two is done!

Step Three!

3) Go to this site. Download the latest version of Control MK. Install this wherever you want. It's not a very big file.

Step three is done!

Step Four!

And you're done! Go into Oblivion, and use the controller perfectly!

I'm stuck on part 4 of that link..
When I try to download that file where that step 4 link takes me, it asks "Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?" I choose to try to find a program online to open it. That is where I get stuck. Which program do I need to open it?

That link takes me to Rapid Share.com. I try the button to download that says FREE. Is that the mistake? Do I have to pay for the download?

As for that download, I got to that mirror part, typed the letters, got to the point where it asks about what program I'm going to open it with. That's the thing, what program do I need?

Or, is it that by placing that download in the step 3 folder, it will open itself?
At Rapidshare, click on free, enter in the code, the save the file to the same folder in which you installed Control MK. Then leave it, don't click on the file at all.

Continue with step five now, it should work. smile.gif
They all say off? Hmm, perhaps try these:

Make sure that the top two drop-down boxes say:

Name:XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)

If that is right, and everything seems right, you can always set it yourself, by clicking on the name of a button (X axis, Y Axis, Button 1, etc) and selecting a keyboard or mouse button for the drop-down box. The buttons go in this order:

A
D
W
S
Mouse left click
Mouse right click
Mouse move X neg
Mouse move X pos
Mouse move Y neg
Mouse move Y pos
Space
Tab
F
E
Shift
C
T
Escape
Control
R

The keyboard buttons have a VK_ prefix, like VK_R in the drop down menu.

Hopefully, this works for you.

YYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YES,YES,YES,YES,YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SUCCESS AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what the problem was!! I Don't know why those were not already assigned (is that how you spell that word?), but after I set the buttons like you said, I started the game and YEEEEEEESSSS!! It worked!!!!

When I set the buttons, they were all assigned which they were not before, but to the right they still "off". Luckily in the game it worked!

Few more Q's. After I exited the game I noticed that the mouse icon/pointer was moving by itself. I figured out that it was the 360 controller and I could now control the mouse icon/pointer with the controller. Is that normal?

I only tried it out for a couple of seconds on the game once I saw it worked. I'll play and test it totally tommorow. Once I do that, If I want to change certain buttons to my liking, how would I do that? Would it be IN the game, or in that CONTROLMK File?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm serious when I say that. You as a gamer know how important CONTROL is to playing games!! Now I wont die so quickly!
Oh yeah, I see the 'Off' thing now. Don't know why it's there.

I think the problem with the pointer moving by itself is a controller problem. It seems that it doesn't properly revert back to 0,0. I can bump my right thumb stick just a tiny bit to the right, and it will stay there. Annoying, takes a bit of getting used to in the game. sad.gif

Currently, the buttons are set to the same as the configuration for the 360 version of the game. To change the controls to your liking, you'll have to switch around the button configuration in Control MK. I know that there is a way to make it so that it uses Oblivion for control mostly, but I can't remember right now. Besides, the current layout should suit just fine. biggrin.gif

Have fun playing Oblivion controller!
The controller gets an A+ after testing today!!! Remember, all this was with my cousin's equipment. So now I KNOW I'll buy the game AND the 360 controller!

At the end what really made it work was that recent post you made with the specific button configurations. Hopefully all these posts will help anyone else that comes across the same problems I had.

Do you know if the controller will work for other PC games? I'm not sure but that CONTROLMK file and a download from that RapidShare.com site for the specific game might work, I hope. I know I'll try!

Once again thanks for all the help!

I am trying to get a PS2 controller to work with Oblivion, and I'm almost there. In fact, the only thing that isn't functioning is the right stick (Z movement, looking around and adjusting depth of view).

I've read through the posts, and I tried the "360" controller fix mentioned in the first posting. I got the Control MK file and the Oblivion.pro file. Didn't work.

I see that Cochese made a post about configuring the Z axis and Z rotation ONLY in the Control MK file. But I don't know how he did that. In fact, I don't know how to open and edit this .pro file at all, or work with Control MK, and I can't find any instructions on how to do so.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I'd rather not use it, but I also have a Logitech Dual Action controller I could use. Tried it, and got the same problem with no response from the right stick.

I've read the posts about problems with the right stick and programming in Oblivion, but I'm just wondering if anyone could give me their best thoughts as to what MIGHT work.
Well, my Oblivion.pro is configured for the 360 controller, which is why it won't work for your PS2 controller. Try this:

Go into control panel. Click on game controllers, and click on the one you want to use, and go to properties. You'll have to find out which buttons on the controller are on an axis, which axis, etc. The triggers might be on an axis, or they might be on a button.

The X/Y axis will be the same though (I think), so X- is A, Y- is S, and so on. I have another controller similar to a PS2 controller, and it had a Z axis on the right thumb stick. That might be called Z rotation, you'll have to set it up so that X - Rotation is set at move mouse X neg, etc. Fiddle with Control MK, you'll be able to get the hang of it.

Sorry I can't give you more help. I might hook up the controller I spoke of, but I think it doesn't work or something...

Edit: Turns out it did work. I'm thinking it might need the same configuration as the PS2 controller, because it looks like one, and also has a Z axis for the thumbstick, like you mentioned. Anyway, give it a shot. Put it in the same folder as Control MK, and remember to leave control MK open. Select the profile from the third drop down box, remember to make sure that your controller is in the first two boxes.

http://rapidshare.com/files/9617987/oblivion.pro.html

Fingers crossed. smile.gif
Does the 360 controller work for other pc games?

If so, did you set it up the same way as for Oblivion? Using the Control MK file and RapidShare?

I'm thinking of buying Battlefield 2141 after I beat Oblivion.
My right analog keeps moving after I move it, anyone know how I can fix it?
Yeah, it can work with any other game. Just use control MK, and make a new profile with it. The profile downloaded from Rapidshare should of had the buttons set correctly in it for Oblivion, I don't know why yours didn't,,, sad.gif. Anyway, it will work, you just have to set the buttons correctly. Nice and easy once you get the hang of it.

Jordash, that seems to be a common problem, but I believe it's a problem with the controller itself. In Control MK, I can't see anything that might cause such a problem. Sorry.
Thanks I can understand how it could be the controller but It works fine with games that support it like Madden and Rayman Raving Rabbids. I tried the previous two versions of control MK and its the same thing. Its as though the controller is telling your pc its stuck. Well sucks to be me.
Hmm, so it must be a fault of Control MK maybe. I'll have a look for a solution. There might be a different program that could be used, Joy2key maybe...
So you were right the analog doesnt center itself 0,0 it hang to the right just a little bit. So the real problem is the sensitivity of the analogs because it works fine on anything else. Its there some way to change that and get a little play to them? Ima try that program you suggested and work from there.
OK I have the fix. On the bottom of ContolMK in joystix settings DeadZone is where you get your play. I set mine to 20 and it works perfect. So test it at 20 and if it still doesnt work keep going up until it works.

Hey demonofdeath if you ever revise your tutorial make a note of that. And thanks alot for your help!!
I've tried downloading the Oblivion.pro file from rapidshare about 9 or 10 times with Firefox and IE and I get this error message every single time:

Download-session invalid. Please click here.

Possible reasons:

Download-session expired. Direct-links last a few minutes for free users.
You requested this download-session from a different IP than yours. If you use AOL, try a different browser.

Awesome, thanks for the Jordash, I'll add that in!

I got it working, but I don't like it at all.

How do I remap the controls? I find the way they are set up is absolutely terrible and I just can't play like this.

Left trigger is attack, pressing on the left stick opens the menu, right trigger apparently does nothing, etc. I just can't deal with controls like these! Please somebody help.

In controll MK you'll see a bunch of buttons labeled things like "button 0" or " X axis +" just click those and choose what keyboard/mouse button will corespond with the controller button.
Thanks, I've got it mostly set up how I want it now. :^)

I don't know how to set the Start button as Escape, though. In Control MK, which button is Start?

Also, I'm having a huge problem that makes the game unplayable with the controller while I'm in menus (and it's damn annoying everywhere else too). The cursor continues to move in a left or right direction after I release the stick. Is there any way to fix this?
hey can somebody help me i dont have the microsoft drivers or anything yet where do i get them secondly i did all the steps except for step 5 which i cant do because my controler doesnt show up in the control mk screen where it should be and i downloaded one of the drivers can someone give me a link to the drivers and after i downloaded the diver that i already have it brings up this extraction screen and it cant finish because of an error update/update.exe is not a valid Win32 application somebody help!

and im using a wireless controller with a rechargeable battery back with the charging wire pluged into my computer can i do it like that or do i need a wired controller? please help
I think you need the wired controller. I got the 360 Windows controller. It's been working just fine.

The problem with the wired is the receiver. In the 360, the receiver is in the console. The PC doesn't have that.
You can but its set up so you cant sneak slowly. Which is what you have to do to build up your sneak with out giving yourself away.
You have to use a wired controller...
You can get the drivers here...

These are the default ini settings, use them if you want to walk/run without having to hit a button to toggle between them. This causes a problem with the diagonal movement. As far as I know there isn't a fix. That's why I set them all to zero and set a toggle button. Works much better. You can try and adjust these settings to see if you can make it work better. Oblivion just isn't really compatible with the controller, that's why it's better to completely rely on control mk.

Bycote, the button configuration is on the first page, post #18

From the first post, step 5

Quite an important part: you should see a few boxes towards the bottom of the Control MK screen. One should say 'DeadZone'. Make the number 20 instead of 10. Remember to click apply, then save. Thanks to Jordash for that!

This will fix the mouse problem...
Here is the perfect config Ive found:

fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.5000
iJoystickLookUpDown=0
iJoystickLookLeftRight=0
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.5000
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.5000

To adjust the speed for looking around go to options and set the sensitivity for the mouse. This is also an addition to the fix for constant moving during game play.
Bycote, I don't understand how that happened, but in the first post, I have put in some more instructions
(the full control configuration), and I'm not using that file any more, since, like Cochese said, it's confusing a lot of people. Thanks Cochese for that suggestion.

Jordash, what does that config do/change?
the main problem I was having with the logitech controller is with the right thumbstick. in controlMK i dont see the x and y rotation only "Z axis" and "Z Rotation". Does anyone know what settings to apply to the "Z" axis?
The first thing I found is that the Deadzone doesnt fix the analog "in" the game. It does fix it for the use of a cursor. Its a final fix for that. Second It fixes movement, giving you pressure sensitive movement as the Xbox 360 version gives. Basically You can sneak with a tap and walk faster as you move the left analog stick. Was wondering if you could help me with setting the rest of the buttons as the 360 version is.
• Directional pad hotkeys
• left thumb stick move or (button) toggle sneak mode
• right thumb stick look, turn, (button) toggle first or third person view
• A-button activate
• B-button journal
• X-button ready weapon or torch
• Y-button jump
• left bumper grab
• right bumper cast
• left trigger block
• right trigger attack
• start-button pause menu
• back-button wait
Is it possible to set the A button to accept instead of the the right trigger? Another one is the left analog button is the pause menu. I cant seem to change that to just sneak.
Alright sounding good. I haven't played Oblivion recently so I haven't tried this out, but I'll give it a shot ASAP.

smignogna: The Z axis is usually the right thumbstick for Logitech controllers, so try changing it to this:

Mouse move X neg
Mouse move X pos
Mouse move Y neg
Mouse move Y pos

In that order. Hopefully it works.

Bycote: Glad it worked for you, sorry about the trouble with the file.

Jordash: I'll try out that ini config you had, it sounds good. I assume that takes over control of the left thumbstick, so I'll have to remove the left thumbstick settings from Control MK? I don't know why sneak isn't working, I'll have a look into it. I don't think A can be used to accept topics and stuff in discussion, because the right trigger emulates the left click, which is attack, but also accept. There might be a way, but I haven't had the time to fiddle with it recently.
Jordash, I have already mapped out the entire 360 controller here...

If you want to assign accept to A during conversation....

In control MK, set button 0(A) to MOUSE_LEFT_CLICK

In the game, set A to "activate".

Keep all of your other settings the same.

Note: A will also be attack when not in conversation. I don't know of another way to do this right now.

If A is attack, as well, that would mean that your sword would be out whenever you're talking to someone, I think. Assuming that activate and attack work at the same time.

I rechecked the info on those instructions from- DEMONOFDEATH -. in that it says it is possible, but there are no instructions.

Anyone know how do set the "hotkeys"?
You have to set the ini to 1 instead of 0.

If you are talking about in the game it's already been covered in this thread. When you are in the menu, highlight what you want, hold down a direction and pull R trigger.

Master Spade, in that file look for bUse Joystick (use control F and then copy that in) set it to 1. After you set it to one, it should look like: bUse Joystick=1

Then, in game:
QUOTE
Whenever I set the joystick to 1 instead of 0 they worked. It's just like the 360. Highlight what you want, hold a direction, and pull the RT. When you go back into the game that direction should provide the item/spell. If that doesn't work for you let me know and I will check my settings to see if there is something I missed. That only works for 1-8. I am still working on the hotkeys mod to see if I can get at least 16.

Jacksone: That probably won't work in Morrowind. Stick with using only Control MK. Fiddle with it, and you'll get the hang of it.
Glad they worked for you Master Spade. And I hope they help someone else who may have a wacky Dpad problem. I'm not sure why they didn't default set that way to begin with...maybe something to do with not having a gamepad connected when the INI was first built...but who knows. Anyway if you want to add em to your How to later that would be excellent Demondofdeath. Have fun guys!
a 3rd party controller software Control MK is identical to Pinnacle Game Controller software ( except more retardedly complicated and robust and time consuming to do.......as with both .............

Vibration and the 'ring of light' don't work on the PC. Don't WORK!!!:rolleyes: Now MS new software driver does make the Light finally light up but guess what NO RUMBLE, CURSOR CONTROL. and guess what the X Button is only an option window to verify connection and goes to a little Xbox rectangular window for more PC type accessories to buy !! ???

THANX Micro-Gates for making my gaming experience and 6 months of waiting for decent controller drives CHEAP !!! And thinking i will buy more of your crap with thinking i'm gullible enough to buy into your weak ass sublimation sales approaches i'm surprised The BURGER King icon didn't pop up in my BROWSER !!!

And sorry if MS can't get their WIRED devices correct when it comes to drivers they can take a flying leap in hopes i will be sucker enough to purchase and wait 6 yrs for MS and whomever to come up with drivers to work exclusively and correctly on the PC when it comes to the 360 WIRELESS PERIPHERALS:rolleyes:
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I didn't read the whole thread.

THIS is being released soon

It allows you to use wireless 360 periph's on PC. It may or may not make life easier for Oblivion, I couldn't say.

If some one happense to get this to try, I'd appreciate a post here saying how it worked.
You asking me if its working for me? yeah kind of! I have a logitech gamepad so I had to configure manually in the control mk program but it works really well now, thx:)

First I figured I would use the D-pad (the flat one, dunno if its the one called d-pad) for walking back and forth and strafing, but I figure that I cant strafe and aim anyway like with mouse+keyb so I just made left and right on the d-pad into left and right turning. Then I got spells on one of the sticks and mouseview on the other.

So its as good as I could possibly hope for, but there are other games out there, like gta san andreas that is made for gamepad and therefor has buttons to swap between targets and such. That could have been an improvement if they had that, but ofcourse that wouldnt work well with mouse, which is what most players use I guess. Ive never seen the game on xbox, maybe they have this feature there?
For anyone who's interested, the solution is posted here: Dance Mat as Game Controller
Sorry if this question is silly, but can I assume that going through the process outlined here will allow me to use the other two trigger buttons (the back ones oblivion isn't recognizing/letting me map) and to navigate the menus with the controller?

Right now I'm using the controller to play on my other PC because it's hooked up to my TV and it lets me get within better viewing range that way, but I still have to take the mouse in order to confirm messages and navigates menus/corpse inventories.
Yep, it will work great. All buttons work, and you can move the pointer in menus and conversation and such. No vibration though. And if you need to type, you have to use the keyboard.

im thinking of getting a windows xbox controller, but i have a question: can u control the menus/dialogue/etc. with the control?

Yes, just program the proper key to a button. (Tab for the menu.)
This thread is mainly for using a 360 controller with the program ControlMK because the support for the controller on it's own is pretty poor...
I got the Wireless thing today so I can use my wireless 360 controllers on Windows unfortunatly when I try to use the Oblivion.Pro program on controlMK all of a sudden the Mouse icon starts moving up and doesnt stop. Any ideas? Im going to uninstall and try again see if that makes a differance.

Edit: I installed it again and it works a charm now except I think the buttons need switching around bit to make it work such as the left trigger being attack plus it works in Windows which I didnt expect.
Yeah, ControlMK just emulates kb and mouse so it will work as long as it's running.

z axis- = right trigger
z axis+ = left trigger

z axis+ = left mouse click, will make left trigger attack
Hey, just wanted to say thanks. I followed the directions in the original post and it work wonderfully. I had stopped playing Oblivion for a long while but with the expansion coming out I thought about maybe getting back into it if I could get the conroller working right.

Well, this did the trick and I'm having so much fun with it again. Kind of neat to use the controller in windows too smile.gif

Now, I just need to find a button to toggle run/walk. I tried the d-pad button as you suggested but I seem to have a hard time using that button.

Is there a way to assign the top center button (with the green X on it between the back and start buttons)?
That button only works with the 360...

You can try doing what I do. Set the left bumper to "grab" in the game and in controlMK set the same button to VK_CAPITAL. I have never had a circumstance where I needed to use both at the same time. Works great for me.
Is there anyway to speed up the speed of the look?

Also, something I had to do and didn't notice posted was to clear all the settings in the game under the joystick controller settings.
To speed up the look, increase the look sensitivity in the game.

Sorry about such a late reply, and I'll put that on the main post.
Glad I could help you two out. biggrin.gif

Also, I got this PM from Cochese.

You can program the D-pad in controlMK with this and rumble is supposed to work but I haven't figured it out yet. The ring of light even works, but not the actual button.

Talk to you later...

This looks interesting, so I'll be trying it out soon. Just posting so other people can know too, and give it a shot. Thanks Cochese.
Thanks for the quick reply. smile.gif

I corrected the movement/looking problem, it was a simple error on my part.

I'm experimenting with various variables to get the rest of the controls to work though. So far, here are the actions for the specific buttons:

A - Sneak
B - Jump
Y - ?
*X - Sheath/Unsheath weapon
Back - Cast
Start - Grab
Right Bumper - Change views
Left Bumper - the stats, quests, ect. menu
Left Analog button - Block
Right analog button - Attack

*X is the only correct button lol

If I set the ini to all zeros, the movement and looking does not work, but this layout worked:

;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

My MK layout is this:

X axis - = A
X axis + = D
Y axis - = W
Y axis + = S
Z axis - = Mouse left click
Z axis + = Mouse Right click
X rotation - = Mouse_Move_X_neg
X rotation + = Mouse_Move_X_pos
Y rotation - = Mouse_Move_Y_neg
Y rotation + = Mouse_Move_Y_pos
Button 0 = Space
Button 1 = Tab
Button 2 = F
Button 3 = E
Button 4 = Shift
Button 5 = C
Button 6 = T
Button 7 = Escape
Button 8 = Control
Button 9 = R
_______________
DeadZone = 20
Max Value = 10
Threshold = 50
*check* Auto Repeat all keys

Everthing on the right is "off"

Sorry I don't know how to take a screenshot of the application window.

The fact that I can actually move is progress.
If the guide has been followed corrently, you can drop items by holding down left bumper, and clicking with right trigger.

itlnstlon77, is your problem that you can move around with the sticks?
Did you change your dead zone setting? Mine works fine at 15, but some people had to go to 20....

Check your in game control settings. Buttons will have two actions if you assign them in both controlMK and in the game.

My deadzone's at 20 and I did go into my control settings for the joystick. I set them so they are the same as controlMK's so they don't affect other actions. This seems to work well.

Because the controls were a bit clunky, I did the setup to have push-sensitive left analog for movement. The only problem is that now I can't use the right and left triggers to attack and block and have to use the mouse for that, and the main menu no longer works for the start button (I'll recheck that one) so I have to use the escape key (not bad anyways). sad.gif
Everything works perfectly now!

The only differance is that when in menus (stats/journal, main) I can't use the joystick so I must use the mouse. However, this is not a big concern for me and I'm very pleased with the results!

Thank you very much for all of your help everyone. smile.gif

If you look at the first page there is a list of how the button configuration is set up...

You do need the wireless adapter on Vista as well.
The USB cable that plugs into the top of the controller and into the 360 to charge the battery won't act as a connection to the pc. You have to have a wired controller or a receiver...
the l/r triggers dont work, and a is attack b block not r/l trigger and its hard to aim and press these buttons
all else goes great though thanks a lot!

will these controller settings work /other games as well, like fable......

never mind, i fixed the trigger thing but do these settings work w/other games?
when i follow the insructions given to use the left stick to walk/run i can't run with it or use the right stick to aim, why?
also how do you use the d-pad for hot keys? it doesnt respond
I use the 360 controller and controlMK for all the games I play.

hot keys - In your .ini file do you have usejoystick=1? If it's set to 0 it won't work.

You may have to adjust your movement settings in your .ini file. it's a lot easier(and just better imo) to toggle walk/run.
Hey i found this...

INI Settings...

These can be tweaked considering on what you like. Although I prefer to toggle
walk/run these are the settings I was comfortable with using this setup.

;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6

The first two must look like this
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1

These two can be tweaked to adjust movement. I noticed if I set them both to 1 I
went slow when pushing the stick all the way and fast when barely touching it.
fJoystickMoveFBMult=0.5000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.5000

These must look like this
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4

These two are similar to mouse sensitivity. The higher the number the faster you
will look around.
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.3000
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.3000

Until you learn how they both work(controlMK and ini. file) it might be better to use just one at a time so you can figure out what does what. Althoug, you need controlMK to get Oblivion to recognize the triggers no matter what. I would also suggest getting new drivers for the controller, specifically XBCD drivers

http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/guide.html

Good luck
Is there actually a way to get the Left and Right Triggers to work? I got everything working really fast, just plugged in my wired 360 pad, and I was off. BUT, the L and R Triggers act as the Z Axis, any ideas?

NEVERMIND! I got it to work all good! THANKS A TON! Oh, I run if I press the Left Stick Lightly and walk if I press is hard, thats reversed...Any fix? It's no problem, BUT...
I use Xpadder which emulates keyboard and mouse use onto a gaming pad which essentially makes every PC game on this planet workable.

Can you just 'blank' all the Oblivion official gamer pad set ups? Because when Xpadder says 'A button is jump' (I use the 360 controller) and Oblivion controls say 'A button is attack' Oblivions control setup gets precedence over xpadder. I guess what I need to do is erase all support for gamerpads from Oblivion and that can be done in the .ini? But what can I erase that wont break the game?

What walking diagonal problem? Are you slowing down? I had the same problem, I just made a button to toggle walk/run. You can pm me if the thread gets closed. I'll pm demon and ask him to make a new thread if he hasn't already.

There is a XBCD driver for the xbox controller too. It's freakin awesome.

http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html

@demonofdeath, I found your thread in the FAQ, thought that was pretty cool.

@GoldenElite0, Is Xpadder free? I know the XBCD drivers and ControlMK are. If it's not how much does it cost and have you used controlMK and if so which do you think is better and do you have a link or screen shots? Super run on...

I had this problem: What you do is go under the actual Oblivion settings in game and go to the gamepad controls. Hit escape on all of the buttons instead of any other key and it will make it so there is a blank function for the button. This allows you to use the gamepad through the program settings.

I've looked through several times, and I did everything as mentioned (pressure sensitive mode to be exact) except my game still does not allow me to use my gamepad during menus but I don't want to touch it, risking losing all my progres lol! I'll try and gather some print screen pics if that's helpful. smile.gif

Ahh thanks for that. Trouble is, Oblivion assings the controller a random assortment of commands that you cant change in the control scheme (Eg numbers) So right now I want RB as cast spell but its set and unchangeable as number '7'.

As for another question; yes xpadder is free! It's also very simple to use. First it's a good idea to download a picture of the controller your using (There are tons on the xpadder website) This acts as a backdrop.

When you first set up you click each button on the controller so Xpadder can recognise each one, they shpw up on the screen as the squares *See picture* It helps to move each button to where it is on the background picture. Then you click each shape and assign it to a key/mouse. Simple!
Piccy

Anyway thats an on the fly walkthrough. It will make more sence once you get on it yourself though.

Super run on...

yeah im having that problem, where if you move diagonally, i begin to walk rather than run. ive tried your suggestions, and ive tried the pushing gently to walk setup up too all to no avail. more help please?
I deleted a bunch of fluff so this thread could be reopened.

Okay, this is what I've got. First, don't even use controlMK right now. Go to your INI and make it look like this:
QUOTE
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000

This will make you move exactly like on the 360. Now I have to change all my configs because I like this better than toggling walk/run because it actually works.

I'm glad this thread is open again smile.gif

edited for realization and clarification:bonk.gif If you set your ini just like the above setting and you're running when you should be walking hit your "always run" key. Default is Caps Lock, I believe.

another realization and somewhat confused: This is what they recommend in the FAQ, yet now I don't know what was causing the clunky movement.

@demonofdeath, any info I sent you about this set up replace with this. It really does work just like the 360.
I have read through all these and I have my Logitech controller working BUT I just want to be able to assign certain actions to certain controls. Like when I do right stick up it puts his hands up in front of him. Then right stick to the right it makes him swing. None of the movements go like they should.
I just got this yesterday for my PC and I can't play it using the keyboard and mouse. It's just too hard to control, especially when I am fighting, cause I'm trying to hurry and position myself etc. and I just can't do it with the mouse and keyboard.
Like I said I read through all these posts on this thread and I did alot of things, but is there a way to just easily explain how to make the controller work so he moves, forward, backward, turn left, turn right, attack, grab, etc etc. Can you maybe make it easier for those of us that aren't computer savvy to understand? Thanks

Also, you can only have 1 spell up at a time? So, I have flare up for example and if I want to heal during a fight, I have to hit tab and go back and load the heal spell, then I have to click C to cast it? We can't have more then one spell loaded at a time?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I am used to playing other games and not having to change configurations etc. Thanks for your help.

Logitech is a bit hard to work with because for some reason Oblivion wont recognize the left stick, neither will ControlMK.

Anyhow, after a lot of tinkering I managed to get my xbox 360 controller to work with the game and now I can get back into playing it.

My Logitech controller works just fine in controlMK and OB.....
Mine doesn't work, it's not broke or anything as it works fine in PSU and FFXI. *shrugs* I don't know, I tried every possible configuration and the left stick was just totally unuseable.
Help I'm using the X-Box 360 controller but I can't get any movements from the right thumbstick , the mouse always wants to do those movements .
Do you have controlMK?
Yeah I just downloaded it .
Alright, this is what I have in ControlMK

This should help OB to recognize the right stick.. other buttons you may have to map yourself.

X- : VK_A
X+ : VK_D
Y- : VK_W
Y+ : VK_S

Z Axis: MOUSE_RIGHT_CLICK
Z Axis: MOUSE_LEFT_CLICK
X Rotation -: MOUSE_MOVE_X_NEG
X Rotation+: MOUSE_MOVE_X_POS
Y Rotation-: MOUSE_MOVE_Y_NEG
Y Rotation+: MOUSE_MOVE_Y_POS

Z rotations can be left blank.

Copy this over what is in your ini file(Oblivion_default)

fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

If problems, try using 2.0000 instead of 0.7500

Mouse sensetivity may need to be raised a little as right and left stick are working off of the mouses settings and the speed might be slowish.

Result? Your right stick should now take proceedance over the mouse(but you can still use the mouse for movement)

Hope that works.

I'm confused as to where in Control MK I'm supposed to enter all of this .
...I'm not sure how to explain that to you in words.

In ControlMK there is 3 dropdown boxes. One for Controllers found and the other for active controllers.

Controllers found = Current controller installed and available on your PC
Active Controllers = The controller you are using.

The third(Profiles) the ">" gives you a set of options.

The fields below is where you make changes to the sticks and buttons.
I did everything you said but the right thumbstick still doesn't respond at all .
Okay, I just started using Xpadder instead and got everything to work brilliantly, no problems. All I did was use the basic layout, use the ini setting like this:

iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=0.7500
fJoystickMoveLRMult=0.7500
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

and I can even use the gamepad in the menus! One question though, how do I change how sensitive the right analog stick is for aiming? In-game it's extremely fast and I can't find out where to change this.
What's an Xpadder ? As far as the right thumstick moving really fast goes , I don't know what to do about that . It did that on my 360 Controller too back when it still worked .

In my case I still can't get the bloody right thumbstick to work , even reinstalled the game and the Controller drivers just to make sure . My controller worked fine back when I played Oblivion with the first official patch released . Is it possible version 1.2 is [censored] with my controller ?
Allright it's official , my right thumbstick works just fine in the Control Panel Test but refuses to do so in Oblivion . No extra programs like Control MK seem to make it work either . It used to work just fine . Maybe it is that stupid version 1.2 patch after all . Anyone else have problems with their 360 controller after updating to that patch .
I finally figured it out . Turns out I changed the wrong ini file . I should have picked the one in MyGames/Oblivion but I originally modified the one in Program Files . Stupid me . Now my right thumbstick works perfect . I'm such an idiot .

  1. XBCD 360 guide:grab the XBCD Drivers and follow the guide
  2. Get Xpadder
  3. breath
My 360 controller will work with any game ever made just by going to those links and following the simple instructions.

After trying it I have to say xpadder is much easier to use than controlmk, but they both work. I have been using the xbcd drivers for months and they are great. MS"s drivers don't even compare.

Solardog, I linked your post in my sig for it's usefulness.
Does this fix apply to any controller? I have the logitech dual shock. Also, does this fix apply to the right analog stick? when I play I'm able to move with the left analog stick, but unable to rotate my view with the right analog.
same problem, I have the logitech dual shock controller. correct me if I'm wrong, I still set the files all to the 'zero' factor. 0.000 in the computer part of the instructions. then I downloaded the controlmk, that's fine, now it recognized my logitech, when I see all the x-axis and stuff, I should leave all the boxes blank exept those two y-axis boxes? Hopefully you can help, Thanks.
I downloaded the Xpadder. Do I "run' or "save" the file? I did both, then I went into the "controlmk" and went to "import". Vista for some reason automatically switches to "Adobe reader", why, I don't know, I have every reading software possible. I doubl click on the "oblivion profile" and nothing happens. Is there a way to just "read" the profile and I can type it in myself? thanks
Not my stuff. These are pulled from posts on the first page. It should help you create a working profile.

Alright..and then this:

QUOTE
First this is my MK Control setup: This is with keyboard controls set to default

X Axis - = VK_A
X Axis + = VK_D
Y Axis - = VK_W
Y Axis + = VK_S

These will control your movement. (Left thumb stick)

Z Axis - = MOUSE_LEFT_CLICK (Right Trigger)
Z Axis + = MOUSE_RIGHT_CLICK (Left Trigger)

X Rotation - = MOUSE_MOVE_X_NEG
X Rotation + = MOUSE_MOVE_X_POS
Y Rotation - = MOUSE_MOVE_Y_NEG
Y Rotation + = MOUSE_MOVE_Y_POS

Controls looking around (right thumb stick)

Button Configuration:

Button 0(A) = VK_SPACE
Button 1(B ) = VK_TAB
Button 2(X) = VK_F
Button 3(Y) = VK_E
Button 4(left bumper) = VK_CAPITAL (this cancels the default “grab”, but there is a fix)
Button 5(right bumper) = VK_C
Button 6(select) = VK_F5 (for quick saves, default on 360 is wait, but I think this is more useful)
Button 7(start) = VK_ESCAPE
Button 8(left click) = VK_LCONTROL
Button 9(right click) = VK_R

Except for the two specified, this is the default setting for the 360. Setting the LB to CAPS is so you can toggle walk/run. You will need this because of the ini settings.
*Uses Xpadder*
Could you please tell me your configuration on the Mk controls? I've been trying to figure this thing out, and I'm sooo close. I'm confused about the "hatswitch settings. For some bizarre reason, I can't get the profile to upload or pull up in the mkcontrols. Thanks.
Sure.

Mine is a bit different though.. the right bottom trigger toggles run. I could'nt set it up to where a soft push on the analog makes you run faster, slower, or walk etc.

Also changes will be need to be made in the joystick menu.

Setting 1
Setting 2

The rest should be blank, like grab, autosave, etc.

Sneak = Button 10, which is "pushing" on the right analog button.
Thanks for your help, I just realized that controlmk and xpadder are two different things, I feel like a dumb A$$. Well, I got further with the Xpadder, I'm real close now. Only problem now is the tweaking, it finally recognizes the right analog, but when I rotate right or left, it punches or blocks, and every button does 2 different things at once if you can believe that!! I need to know whether or not to follow the "original" directions and set everything to 0.0000's or to the 0.7500's in the file? and whether or not to set the Oblivion control settings to" default" and "grab' to "shift". thanks for your help.
I'm using Pinnacle Profiler and it works great with the 360 gamepad. There are presets from Pinnacle that mimic the X360 version almost identically.
Make sure you do not exit ControlMK after you've set everything up. It's a modulator and has to be running while you are playing the game for it to take over the mapping of the buttons. I ran into this with the left and right triggers not working until I realized that I needed to leave it running (just click save and leave it). As for the right thumbstick not working, change the following values in the config file from:

fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

to a higher value like 0.3500 each or something. Play around with numbers until you find a comfortable speed.
Wow, thank you very much, this guide was very easy to understand, I used the file though cus thats seemed easiest to me.
Ok this isnt working, when I set busejoystick to 1 the controls overlap each other. All the other ini setting are as you said to put them. The problem is that I want to use the dpad for hotkeys but I cant because the controls overlap when I set usejoystick to 1. Can anyone help me with this issue?
i cant get my cotroler to show on controlmk is there a softwair that i need (my spelling sucks)
Good Morning, I just recently reinstalled oblivion after about a 4 month break and I am having some movement issues. I have had it working in the past perfectly following the instructions listed here. The issue I am getting is that when moving foward sometimes I move diagonally to the right and/or sometimes if I let my charachter just stand still for a while the will start creeping(moving very slowly) to the right as well. Everything else works fine, hotkeys, button configuration etc. I believe with my last setup, about 6 months ago, I reconfigured something in the ini to stop this diagonal movement....... I don't remember. I know this is not a very active thread since the instructions are very thorough, I am stumped so I figured I would send this out to see if anyone else had similar problems and knew how to correct. Any assistance would be appreciated.
If, when you uninstalled the game, you did not follow these steps, you could have a borked ini file

1. Back up any Saves to another location (see #4).
2. Run the Uninstaller.
3. Find the Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion folder and manually delete it.
4. Find the <<user name>>/My Documents/My Games/Oblivion folder and delete it. Note, this is where your Saves are, so this is your last chance to back up.
5. Empty the Recycle Bin.
6. Do a Clean Boot
7. Install the Game and then Patch it.

What I would try first is to delete the INI file in My Documents/My Games/Oblivion and restart the game. Then go in and make the INI changes specified in the beginning of this thread after the game has created the INI file (which means you have to play through to the exit of the sewers to the outside world. Put it the Difficulty Slider on Easy if you can handle the keyboard.
Thanks, CCNA, your advise did it. Time to set up my mods and go explore Cyrodil once again. toughninja.gif
sorry to post in a somewaht old topic ^^. but I came back to oblivion just now and got an xbox 360 controller aswell. wanted to try it out. configuring it now. althoguh I cant download controlmk as the owner of that site exceeded his bandwith. can anyone with the program upload it somwere for me?

thanks.

Greetz,

is there any way to tweak the left stick directions? it seems like my controller doesnt give me much room to walk forward, and likes to make me run diagonally a lot. if im running forward and i move the stick even the slightest to the left my character will run as if you were holding A and W. this is really annoying as im constantly running in a zig zag motion with my controller. I'm using Xpadder with my Logitech Dual Action controller, any help would be great!

Also for anyone using the xpadder program to emulate the mouse movements, if you would like a more precise aim (more like the 360 settings) then set your right stick mode to Cursor and change the deadzone to about 40-45. after I changed those looking around was quite pleasant!
anyone?
WHY WHEN I HIT MY CAST BUTTON DOES IT CAUSE MY VIEW TO CHANGE?
well, now my character just runs around everywhere without me controlling him. what the hell? i followed the guide now what do i do? did i [censored] up the game? i hope not.
Ummm... did you buy a receiver for the wireless controller? No it does not work using the Plug - n- Play charge kit with a wireless, but a wireless does work on a PC with a receiver. I use my wireless controller with a receiver and it works just fine.

QUOTE(Cochese @ Dec 17 2006, 12:05 AM) *
Okay, I have been doing a little research and found out that the reason I couldn't use my 360 controller is because it is wireless. I was plugging it into my computer using the charging cord. Apparently, it doesn't work that way. Only the wired controller will work on pc and 360. The wireless will only work on 360.

No one else has had this problem?
You're sure ALL of the in game options for the gamepad are BLANK? Those programs don't use the gamepad settings from the ingame options, make sure you don't have something conflicting.

So I need to blank out ALL the in game joystic control options?
Ok, did what you suggested and its still doing it.
Then it's either a driver or a hardware problem, since it works for others. What driver do you have installed for the 360 controller?

The official one. The controller works fine with other games.
Well I don't know how to help you then. So I'll just post the related part of my oblivion.ini and you can experiment from there. My setup works fine with xpadder.

What I don't get is it does this whether I use xpadder or control mk.
As far as I can tell its some how a conflict with the mouse, gonna unplug my mouse and see if that helps.
Fixed it:). Apparently I need to unplug my controller then re plug it after oblivion has loaded.
Anyone know how to make it so the left stick is pressure sensitive( like it was before ) so there is no need for CAPS?
my settings for walking with left thumbstick are (in Oblivion.ini):

bUse Joystick=1

fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0000
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0000

it's kind of sensitive, is there an option to set a dead zone? also i want to strafe smooth, even if i run. so if i put the thumbstick slightly left or right it moves full speed strafing left/right with THIS setting of me... any1?

i'd upload an xpadder profile later if someone would like it.
did 2 sets with auto-switch between inventory (TAB) and main controls. quite nice. (i'm using xbox 1 controller!) but it's the same buttons, but the bumpers, they're black/white below XYBA.

my additions to default xbox controller setting:

- smoother mouse settings (fiddled around with look around, quite good sensitivity now)
- auto-switch to menu controls if B (TAB) pressed
- scrolling with left thumb stick
- quick switch of tabs (if someone knows how to quick switch the stats/inventory/magic/map tabs on below with keyboard commands, plz tell me smile.gif)
- dropping items with X (Shift+LCLICK)
- choose items with A
- escape by back button (if TAB switch got [censored] up you can escape, just press B button again and leave game menu, but leftclick then is button A smile.gif)

any suggestions what else to add? any secret keyboard commands? msg me

btw. got a new ATI card (fastest for AGP...) but it seems i can set AF to 0xAF or 16xAF in catalyst what makes NO difference sad.gif

Alright I'm bringing this topic back from the grave. I need help! I've followed every step perfectly, but my controller performs like a pregnant cow... Change view is RB, jump is B, sneak is A! Any ideas?
Oh man, I figured out that I wasnt running Control MK while playing and thats what was messing me up! I still have some questions though.

1. Why is LB the toggle for walk, but also for journal?
2. Why is Back the toggle for cast, but also for quicksave?

THIS is being released soon

It allows you to use wireless 360 periph's on PC. It may or may not make life easier for Oblivion, I couldn't say.

If some one happense to get this to try, I'd appreciate a post here saying how it worked.

Hi,
