For those not familiar with IMVU, it appears to be a instant messaging program which uses 3d avatars instead of a regular 2d image.

I was alerted by Schadeljager that one lovely member of their community is currently passing off my oblivion mod work (which im sure a few people know of) as their own, namely my scythes and my tanzit's set. Not only that, but cultbrain's sauron armour set has also fallen victim to this thief.

I wanted to blog something which people seem to be having an issue on my back, and that is 'copyright' infringement of items on my behalf. Basically what some people are claiming is that I'm stealing peoples work and putting them up as mine. Ripping countless 3D Mesh Models, and converting them IMVU compatible. Also, that I'm a l33t hacker with skillz comparable to that of Gandalf, and that my real name is "The Stig". Sure, I also throw pink fireballs out of my hands, shoot green lazer beam out of eye's and have 4 balls. Please...

Well, here is the bombshell people, and that is I don't rip other people...at least not the Model issue people are talking about (and I'm a normal person).

What I do is this, I browse the internet, search for something 'cool' or tempting and take the idea...I make it and use it in IMVU simple as that. My 40K items come from GW's table-top game. They made everything, all I did was like the idea, take it, make it (the same as I saw) and made them on IMVU.

Same with game Mods, I saw a game Mod, looked at it, liked the idea, made the idea into IMVU and voila, I and people are happy.

Is it wrong? So am I really breaking any rules here? Yes and No.

You see, stealing idea's is bad, and I admit that, but there is NO rule AT ALL that says an idea or item is Righted to a person, no matter what people say I'm doing nothing wrong here. What about Naruto? Gyver? Halo? WH40K? They're all original ideas, but yet people seem to rip those with no problems, and name them no problem. But when I rip and Idea, and take all measure to protect myself from TOS violations I still get banged? KMA.

What about people who ACTUALLY make money off 3D items? I have seen countless people here ripping 3D Models which are not theirs, and the next day I see that 3D Model on a site which sells for about 200 bucks. Considering you cannot reverse an IMVU item from .CFL to 3D then I think it doesn't get any brainier. The IMVU person bought the Model and ripped to IMVU. NOW THAT is wrong.

So I want to know this, if I make an item, based upon a Mod I saw or Game I played, and idea WAS NOT mine (ideas are like speech, you cannot copyright them) I get spanked and people call me 'ripper' but when someone still a COMPLETE 3D Model and names it EVEN the same name of the spoof it was ripped from don't even get as much as a slap on the hands?

Well, I'm glad to say that from now on, who EVER claims I rip anything will be blocked by me. Lets face it, IMVU has a terrible customer service, so me complaining about harassment just won't do. I'll just have to block that person and get on with my life (and hopefully them too).

I have been a professional artist for some 37 yrs and applaud everyone here who spoke up and helped get the word to the mod creators and to Beth about this pirate counterfiter. It is theft pure and simple to steal any part of a creative concept or work without permission and attribution. No clever language or manipulative posting by the pirate will change the fact that he stole thw works in question. And I would echo others in saying, let Bethesda handle it with the proper proceedures, and I am very glad they are, it sounds like, and that will be a good lesson for this wrongdoer. I am glad to see such support of creative rights, and care for the community.

Hey guys, tone down the mortal threats. We can all see this kid is a degenerate low-life that feels the need to steal tda's - and many other's - work to feel any inkling of self-confidence. I mean thats what it boils down to. He can't make anything original so he has to steal the work from high-class 3d modellers like tda. Once you realize that you can tell that hes not really living at all, but hes living somebody elses life.

Interesting that he's admiting to taking GW designs - I used to work for Games Workshop for 4 years and know that they are very protective of their own IP as it took a lot of money and time to develop them. I don't think anyone is going to get sued really. I threatened "legal action" in my email to imvu to try and provoke them into action, but to be honest if they called my bluff i'd back down. To hell if i'm spending money on a solicitor just because some little twit who's not got two braincells to rub together decided he would rip my stuff.

Question? I don't know how things work in Libya but, wouldn't you get expelled from College if you are caught plagiarizing? 2nd post @axy: It is Illegal to use any content (Textures, sounds, meshes, ect) from one game and convert them for use on any other game, project or platform without the special permission of the software company or authors that owns them and created them. PERIOD

It's the reason that everything that Bethesda made for Morrowind can't be converted to Oblivion and released. They made it for that game and that game only, and have never given permission for the content to be anywhere else. You can recreate it from scratch sure, but a direct conversion is a big no no.
