Note: I've only tested this on an Xbox 360 wired controller. It may work with other controllers but the config files are specifically for the 360 controller. They won't work with other gamepads.

-Step 1

Download Jotokey.

-Step 2

I have 2 config files for Jotokey. One has the default L trigger is jump, right trigger is use/cast/attack. The other one is the one I use for the Blocking Enhanced, in which the left trigger is used for manual blocking instead. (you have to set the blocking button on the Morrowind Enhanced launcher to right mouse button for it to work) They are very easy to use. All you have to do is copy the text in the one of the code boxes below, save it in notepad as a .cfg, and put that file in the same folder as joytokey.

So here's the Default Configuration.

-Step 3

Open up your Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind folder and open the Morrowind ini. file. Find these lines....

Joystick Look Up/Down=6
Joystick Look Left/Right=3

Change it to this....

Joystick Look Up/Down=0
Joystick Look Left/Right=0

Save it and close.

-Step 4

Now boot up Morrowind. (From now on you need to have Joytokey running when you start Morrowind. You need to have your prefered config selected for the trigger buttons and right stick to work) Go to options and then controls. If you have changed the default keyboard controls reset it to default. Now click Enable Joystick and make sure X axis movement is set to Strafe.

Now you can customize your controls. Before you map your controller we need to set up your trigger buttons. For default config., click on "use" and click your left mouse button. (don't worry about the space being blank) Then scroll down to "jump" click it and press "E" on your keyboard. If you are using the Blocking Enhanced config., you only need to map "use".

Now your ready to map the rest of your controller to your liking.

Personally I map my controller like so:

Left Bumper: Journal (I set it to jump since I use Blocking Enhanced)

Right Bumper: Rest (Journal for Blocking Enhance)

A: Activate

B: Menu Mode

X: Ready Weapon

Y: Ready Magic

Right Stick Click: Switch POV (toggle between first and third person, hold to view character)

Left Stick Click: Sneak

Back: Maybe Auto-Run for default? (Rest for Blocking Enhanced)

Start: Already has it set the Pause Menu by default don't assign anything to this button

Up on D-Pad: Quick Item 1 (I always set this quick key to a healing potion, very helpful to have a healing potion at your fingertips in battle)
Left on D-Pad: Quick Item 2
Right on D-Pad: Quick Item 3
Down on D-Pad: Quick Item 4

The Xbox Guide button doesn't work on the PC.

Your set! smile.gif

A couple little quirks about it specific to the 360 controller, when holding the left trigger the right trigger doesn't work and vice versa. (no way to get around this, it just the way the drivers for it work) The D-pad is sensitive tap it lightly for a quick item that has reserves in your inventory. (ex. healing potion, if you hold it you will drink all of your healing potions very quickly)

Hopes this helps you guys! smile.gif Also if you have some other gamepad I could probably help you get it to work. All you have to do is ask. smile.gif

Oh and some credit to MMInfinity for doing it first; I just explained it to everybody. smile.gif
Well done, welcome to the forums!

No problem guys. smile.gif
I've updated the BLocking Enhanced config so that start is the pause menu now. (using next/previous weapon/spell on the d-pad was pretty much useless because of how sensitive it is)
Thank you very much for this. I am glad you "Got Back Up" biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif I've got a new policy now, if I don't have a reason to be on the forums, I won't be.

Anyways after playtesting a little more I've found the joystick support for Morrowind is bettter than I thought. You don't have to have an assigned button for walk/run toggling. Pushing the left stick all the way forward makes you run while lightly pushing makes you walk. So that frees up a buttton on the controller. (and if you are running FPS Optimizer with Morrowind, make sure you have "activate run in combat" set to off, it will royally screw with this) I'll update my first post.

Oh and CCNA, maybe you should pin this thread?
Well, just in case he doesn't (and he probably won't), I've bookmarked it. smile.gif
Me too. smile.gif
This has to be the threaded controller, and not a regular one with a play and charge kit?

That's too bad, really.. Hooked up my PC to my TV now, and having to bend forward to use the mouse and keyboard isnt too comfortable.

ok, so you STILL have to use keyboard and mouse to access inventories? I need to get a setup where it is identicle to morrowind on the xbox. Is this possible? I don't want to use mouse or keyboard.

fallen mentions menu mode being the "B" button in his setup. But if you don't have the threaded controller (whatever the hell that means), I guess you're out of luck.

I'm gonna pick up a Saitek P880 gamepad and try out there Morrowind profile. I think what I need is mouse emulation to controll cursor at inventory screen.
Very useful, bubbly.gif
Hey, will this work with an original xbox controller with a USB hookup?
i asked a stupid question and have since figured it out-

sorry
nevermind
this post was so helpful and i'm loving using the controller- i'm just not ready to go keyboard

i do have a question if anyone can answer it- i really do try things i just have no luck

how do I program the quickkeys- in that how to i set a spell or weapon to a quickkey on the controller

i know this is easy but if anyone can tell me i-d appreciate it greatly
On the keyboard, press the F1 key while in free-look mode (when you can move the mouse around and you can look around in the world). Then click a button and assign something to it. When you press that number key, the thing you assigned that will be readied for you. For example, if you click the 1 button, then selected an Inventory item of your favorite weapon, then you can press the 1 key at any time in free-look mode and it would switch your readied weapon to the one you selected.
Excuse my dumb question, are you are able to use the right analogue stick to look around rather than the mouse? If so how?

Mike

PS Sorry I have asked this on another thread mods.
Jotkey tells me to make sure directx 6 is installed?
Not to take away from the effort of the TC. But this is entirely pointless:( there is no use of the right analog stick, basically you hold the 360 controller in one hand and the mouse in the other. Might as well just use the mouse & keyboard:(
Holy crap, is that true about the right stick? Or is it just a problem Grendel is having?

Anyway, I just finished setting this all up, clicked "Return" on Morrowind's menu, picked up my 360 controller, and nothing happened.

So I re-did everything and, still, nothing happens. Woo hoo.

The post above mine mentions it as well. Sadly, I think this topic/subject is dead. There is no way to change the controls for looking/aiming:(, IF you change the X: axis to MOVE, the left stick WILL move you and turn you, but it won't/can't aim for you:(
Like I said in another topic, make a profile for Morrowind in Control MK, http://redcl0ud.com. Or I might make one, I dunno.

What does that do?
Looks like it's supposed to do the same thing as JoyToKey.

[EDIT]
Wow. Nevermind everything I've posted in this thread so far. I just rebooted my computer and now everything works!? That's very weird, the controller driver didn't say I had to reboot when it installed... but oh well, this is awesome! Thanks very much fallen for sharing this! :^)

Grendel, everything works. I'm using the Blocking Enhanced configuration that was posted by fallen, maybe you could try that or a different controller mapping... I dunno.

Oh and fallen, I'm going to go post a similar thread to this at the Planet Elder Scrolls forum, I'm sure some of them will love it! And I'll be sure to tell them the awesome person who gave me the information, thanks again! :^)

Well done. I love it when people are able to solve their own problems. smile.gif Especially since I'm clueless about controllers. You might want to PM fallen as he doesn't come by very often. You may not have noticed that this is a thread resurrected from last winter.

Edit: I just realized how that might sound. I don't mean to PM him for permission, but to let you know he may never see your thanks otherwise.
Thanks, he is PMd. :^) And the thread is already posted at PES. :^)

I'm just loving playing Morrowind with this controller! Everything just feels so much smoother now, especially sneaking. WOO HOO!
Going back to the Control MK question, it emulates the mouse and keyboard. I got it to work perfectly, no mouse or anything. But, this seems to be working for you now, so doesn't matter anymore. biggrin.gif

I can't save the default settings as a .cfg file. It only lets me save them as .txt could someone help me out please?
everything works EXCEPT the right analog. Need some help please.
I'll try to tell you exactly how I did it Grendel... I hope it helps.

First, I got the Xbox 360 controller pad driver from the windows update page - you'll have to do a "custom" update and select the driver from the "optional hardware updates" section. And you might want to reboot your computer after this.

Then open JoyToKey, click the "file" drop-down menu and select "create new configuration file" and name it "Morrowind" or something that you will recognize. Now look in the folder you installed JoyToKey, there will be a file called "Morrowind", open it with notepad and paste the text to it from one of fallen's configurations, then save the file.

Open JoyToKey again and double-click "Morrowind" to make it your active config file, then boot up Morrowind and follow fallen's advice for mapping the controls (reverting to default controls, enabling joystick, etc).

If you try the default config and it doesn't work, then download the 'Blocking Enhanced' mod (you will need 'Morrowind Enhanced' if you don't already have it) and try using that config with the block button set to the right mouse button in ME.

FINALLY got it working, in large part do to the better explanation:)
How is it using the controller for Morrowind? Do you use the 'A' button to select topics in conversation, etc?

Also, are the menus a bother? From memory, they are resizable windows, not cycle menus, like on Xbox.
I prefer the controller to the keyboard simply because character movement (and particularly sneaking) flows so well with the controller.

The menus are the downside because, like you pointed out, they're not like Xbox menus. You have to use the right trigger to interact with them and sometimes it's a bit of a pain to get your mouse where you want it... but on the whole it's okay.

Oh by the way, is there any way to turn on large text in Morrowind? I think that may make clicking through menus easier. I seem to remember a large text option somewhere in the Morrowind.ini, but I don't know exactly what it does. I'll go check and reply to myself if nobody beats me to me. ;^)

@ Grendel, I'm glad you got it working! :^)
Ah, yeah. I thought that using the right trigger might be necessary. I have to do the same with Oblivion.

This is from Yacoby's ini tutorial.

[Fonts]
Font 0=magic_cards_regular
Font 1=century_gothic_font_regular<-------------------------------these fonts can be changed to large for hi rez setting

It doesn't make much of a difference though...only about a half a dozen pixels.
Ya, I found those entries when I checked the ini file and I remember I read somewhere that you could change the "regular" to "large" and that would enlarge the fonts. Unfortunately, that only gave me an error when I tried to start the game. :^(

So how do you enlarge the fonts?

You're welcome Grendel and I just posted that over at PES. You can see the thread Here if you ever want to for any reason.

I'm trying to use google to find out how to enable large text in Morrowind, but unfortunately any search involving the words "Morrowind," "large," and "text" turns up just about everything there is on the internet even remotely about Morrowind. :^P

Never tried it myself, but I just checked the MW font folder and there's no font in there with "large" in the name. There is a century_gothic_big though. Maybe that's what should be used.
Ah thanks Yasgur!

But you're right, it really doesn't make much of a difference... I may try to use some other fonts...
This is just so this thread doesn't fall into the forum waste bin. The instructions by fallen are very handy to have around.
I tried the instructions given but it did not work.

One of the parts of the instructions that I was unsure of (based on the wording I assume you don't have to do anything at that particular point) was were it was stated "You need to have your prefered config selected for the trigger buttons and right stick to work". Exactly what do you have to do here?

Hopefully someone can explain the directions in more detail since I get the strong impression that the directions are very vague and the writer of them assumes that we will automatically know some of the things to do without it being stated. I followed the directions exactly but as I said, they didn't work.
Just another bump to hopefully prevent this from being culled (Yacoby's site is having a problem today, so the archives are unavailable).
